Hear it from Wiggi!

Hey everybody…It’s Wiggi! Wiggle’s Wacky Wizard when it comes to Mobile Phone Safety.

With over 1.8 billion mobile phone users worldwide, we know that the mobile phone is here to stay. It’s our connection to the future. You can use mobile phones to text your friends, play games, take photos, receive important information, listen to music and most importantly contact your family in emergency situations. Unfortunately with this advanced technology there also comes certain risks. With the number of mobile phone users growing every year, the need to be safe with your mobile phone is more important than ever.

Wiggi wants you to be safe. Here are 10 ways to keep you and your family stay safe while enjoying your mobile phones. Wiggle on!

WIGGI SAYS…

  • Use common sense. Using a mobile phone while riding a bike, walking down a busy street, using public transportation, skateboarding, eating in a restaurant, or hiking on a steep cliff can be hazardous to your health. If you think you shouldn’t use your mobile phone, chances are you’re right.

  • Don’t speak and drive. Driving under the influence of a mobile phone may cause you to a) drive poorly, b) increase your chances of causing an accident and c) may lead to unnecessary road rage. Drive safely, use a hands free headset, or pull over and make a safe call or text.

  • Text more often. Not only do you look cool, but when you text message you are actually being considerate to your friends and family. If you think you will interrupt someone at work or at dinner with a call then simply text message. It’s less intrusive and shows common courtesy to others.

  • Don’t be a hater. Avoid sending or replying to flame (hate) messages to upset others. Nasty messages could result in violence and you wont be down with the Wiggi way. If you receive an inappropriate photo or video clip, loose the baggage and erase it from your memory. If the problem persists, please notify your carrier and report it to a trusted adult.

  • Use the vibrate mode. It will prevent you from getting nasty looks in public and it can also make you wiggle in your seat. Vibrate mode is best at movies, plays, restaurants, work, sporting events like golf or tennis, libraries, weddings, classes, and other public locations. Use your best judgment and get wiggi with it!

  • SSShhhhh! Stop noise pollution. Not everyone wants to know what you did last summer. Use your inside voice, take the conversation to a private room, call the person back, or text message them.

  • Put it away. To prevent people from wigging out, respect the rules established at school or in other business establishments. Using mobile phones or text messaging during school tests is a no no and could result in a failing grade or other school punishment.

  • Respect your neighbors. Avoid interrupting a face-to-face conversation with a mobile phone call or text. People will like you even more than they already do now. Especially the check out clerks at your local coffee shop and grocery store.

  • Use picture phones wisely. Taking photos of other people without permission is strictly prohibited and may lead to a black eye, broken nose or even harassment lawsuits.

  • Keep your digits private. Avoid giving your mobile number out to people you don’t know or trust. Giving away your personal mobile number may lead to increased calls, spam text messages, or even harassment. Change your mobile phone number if a problem arises. If you or a family member ever feel threatened or put in a dangerous situation, save all messages and numbers, and contact the local law enforcement.

*Both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) state that the available scientific evidence today does not show that any health problems are associated with using wireless phones. However, to have a great mobile phone experience it’s important to keep yourself safe and always respect your peers, friends, and family. Follow Wiggi’s lead and do your part to stay safe and have a wiggi good time!

Remember the 4 C’s! Courtesy, Confidentiality, Control and Contact.

  • Courtesy – Be courteous, respect others when speaking on your mobile phone in public.
  • Confidentiality – Keep your cell phone number private. Avoid giving your number to strangers
  • Control – Take control of your cell phone experience. Use your common sense.
  • Contact – Contact a trusted adult or law enforcement if you ever feel threatened on a call/text
